- Santander announces branch closures following network review
- Majority of closing branches are under three miles from another Santander branch, the furthest is five miles away
- All are within half a mile of at least two free-to-use ATMs
Santander has today announced plans to close branches by the end of August in response to the ongoing shift by customers towards mobile and online banking, a long-term trend which has been accelerated by the pandemic.
Branch transactions fell by 33% over the two years before the pandemic and declined by a further 50% in Mobile and online transactions have meanwhile been growing by 20% each year, with almost two thirds of overall transactions now digital.
The majority of the closing branches are less than three miles from another Santander branch, and the furthest distance is five miles. All are within half a mile of at least two free-to-use ATMs and one mile of the nearest Post Office.
Santander will retain a network of branches following the proposed changes, providing broad coverage across the whole of the UK. All Santander current and business account holders can also bank using one of over 11, Post Office branches nationwide.
Santander will carry out a programme of activities to support customers of closing branches to find other ways to bank that best suit their needs, including help to find alternative branches and access digital, telephone and Post Office banking services. This will include proactively contacting potentially vulnerable customers by phone to provide individual support.
A dedicated phone number is available to provide customers with help and information on the closures ( ). The bank will also hold a series of online events over the coming months where a member of Santander’s branch team will explain alternative ways to bank and the tools and support available.
Santander has consulted its trade unions on the closure proposals and expects to be able to find alternative roles for a significant number of those colleagues wishing to stay with the bank.
Adam Bishop, Head of Branches, said:“Branch usage by customers has fallen considerably over recent years so we have made the difficult decision to consolidate our presence in areas where we have multiple branches relatively close together. The majority of the closing branches are within three miles of another branch and the furthest is five miles away.
“We will provide every support to customers of closing branches to find alternative ways to bank with us that best suit their individual needs. We are also working alongside our unions to support colleagues through these changes and to find alternative roles for those impacted wherever possible. We continue to believe that branches have an important role to play and we expect the size of our network to remain stable for the foreseeable future.
“We are committed to supporting our customers and responding to changes in the way customers want to access services.”
As branch usage has declined, Santander has adapted how it uses its branches to support the communities in which it operates. Prior to pandemic restrictions, branches ran events on common financial concerns, such as fraud and buying a home, while larger branches provided meeting space for local businesses and charities. During the pandemic, the events have been moved online, while branch teams have been trained to serve customers by phone and online chat, ensuring customers can get the support they need from home.
To support customers who continue to use cash, Santander has taken an active approach with representation on several industry working groups and a recent submission to the government’s consultation on Access to Cash. On a practical level, the bank is supporting the Mastercard Purchase With Cash Back initiative and is this year rolling out improved ATM functionality to support those withdrawing and depositing cash.

Cash machine raiders threw bricks at police during high-speed chase
Three "brazen" cash machine raiders taunted police by throwing bricks at them during a high-speed chase.
Heathan Hall, 29, Wayne Smith, 37, and Swaley Price, 24, all from Leicestershire, were part of a ruthless masked gang that ripped out four cash machines and tried to take two others.
During the chase, the gang tried to ram the police vehicles and a metal pole was also thrown at a police car.
The masked crook later appeared to be pointing a shotgun at them, although no weapon was fired or recovered.
Stolen telehandlers were used by the gang to rip out cash machines and load them into 4x4 vehicles.
Burglaries were also committed at numerous homes across the East Midlands to obtain getaway cars. Other heavy vehicles and equipment were stolen from farms and building sites to facilitate the raids, which netted £, in cash.
The judge estimated their "catalogue of offending", including the stolen cash, structural damage, high value vehicles taken and lost business during repairs, amounted to "approaching one million pounds."
The gang used an array of stolen vehicles, such as a £35, Nissan Navara and a £37, Audi, like "disposable commodities," Leicester Crown Court was told.
Jonathan Cox, prosecuting, said: "These three formed part of a well organised and highly efficient group who were determined to earn hundreds of thousands of pounds from their offending.
"Theirs was a highly lucrative operation, driven by greed, during which they showed a total and utter disregard for the impact their offending may have on others - with a willingness to put others at risk due to their brazenly dangerous behaviour."
Where were the cash machine raids?
1.Co-op store, The Green, Thringstone - June 5,
A £15, JCB telehandler was taken from the Markfield Equestrian Centre and a Toyota Hilux worth £15, from a house, to commit the raid.
At am residents awoke to a loud noise as the ATM containing £41, was attacked chase deposit atm near me but the gang were unable to remove it and left empty-handed.
Nearly £50, damage was caused to the building. It cost £13, to replace the damaged ATM and the store lost £9, in trade.

2. Nationwide, Market Street, Ashby-de-la-Zouch, - July 10,

The gang loaded the machine containing £43, onto a stolen car, leaving £57, worth of damage.
3. Co-op store, Manor road, Kings Bromley, Staffordshire - August 2,
Using another stolen telehander there was an unsuccessful attempt to rip the ATM out of the wall, but it was anchored too securely to the floor. Thousands of pounds worth of damage resulted and the £13, cash machine had to be replaced.
The police arrived to find a group of six masked men, who taunted them, before making off at high speed.
4. Nisa store, Station road, Hatton, Derbyshire - August 3,
More stolen vehicles were used to steal an ATM containing £37, causing £24, structural damage.
The gang members tried repeatedly ramming the police car before a pursuit, which stopped only for one raider to get out and throw a metal pole at the police car, and later let off a fire extinguisher and threw it at their vehicle.
The man also lifted an item and pointed it towards officers who were given the impression he had a shotgun, although no firearm was discharged or recovered.
The chase was called off and one of the gang's stolen cars was found burnt out.
mynewextsetup.us store, Burton on Trent - September 29,
A telehander stolen earlier was used to smash into the store causing the owner living above to fear there was an "earthquake."
The machine containing £79, was taken and extensive structural damage was caused.
6. Spar store, Coventry Road, Market Harborough - October 6,
A telehandler was stolen from a nearby farm and used to smash in the store's wall to take the ATM containing £97,
Five masked men were seen loading it onto a vehicle as they left behind major damage.
The court heard that the police later recovered £, in cash from the home of Hall's parents.
Hall's father, Derek Hall, 63, of Swadlincote, is due to be sentenced next week in relation to possessing criminal property.
What did the judge say?
Judge Martin Hurst told chase bank jobs in fresno ca defendants: "You acted with impunity, ignoring the public, and taunted the police as well as risking injury to people in buildings and officers who were pursuing you.
"At the police you were throwing heavy items; bricks and a metal pole and on one occasion threatening them with what appeared to be a shotgun.
"You were motivated by greed, as the Crown says, and demonstrated a total disregard for law, order, authority, social norms and property rights.
"It was utterly brazen offending.
"Four of the attacks on ATMs were successful and two were foiled.
"Homes were burgled to steal cars and other vehicles and allied savings bank contact number were stolen.
"Vehicles were driven dangerously when fleeing and there was arson of a vehicle being disposed of."
He estimated the total value of the cash taken, as well as of the cars and vehicles stolen and damaged caused to buildings was "approaching one million pounds."
He said: "Injury was caused to two officers pursuing you in Thringston and to a farmer who pursued the thieves who stole his telehandler.
"The risk of injury or death was caused to the person living above the Spar shop in Burton on Trent when the property was at risk of collapse."
The judge said there was insufficient evidence that a seventh ATM attack in Stoney Stanton was down to the defendants.
What was said in mitigation?
Darron Whithead, for Hall said: "He doesn't accept he was the ringleader or mastermind and says he played an equal role.
"He acknowledges the chaos, inconvenience and inevitable fear that followed from these events.
"He acknowledges these are serious matters and through his pleas seeks to express remorse."
Mr Whitehead said the attacks on the cash machines had not involved the use of explosives.
Stephen Dyble, for Smith said: "It's been suggested Hall and Smith were leaders, which is not accepted, but the defendant accepts it was an equal joint enterprise."
He said others were also involved.
Cash machine raids in Leicestershire
Mr Dyble said: "He's not previously targeted ATMs."
He said the mobile phone Smith was caught in possession of, in custody, had been solely for contact with his wife and family and not for any other purpose.
Gerrard Hillman, mitigating for Price, said he was younger than the co-defendants, who were more criminally experienced.
He played a lesser role; was not involved in the conspiracy to burgle houses and took part in four of the six cash point raids.
What did they admit?
All three defendants pleaded guilty to conspiracies to burgle commercial premises to steal cash machines and to steal farm chase deposit atm near me and equipment.

Smith pleaded guilty to possessing a prohibited mobile phone while in custody.
What were the sentences?
Hall of White Gate Stables Caravan Park, Copt Oak Road, Markfield, was jailed for a total of 11 years.

“We will provide every support to customers of closing branches chase deposit atm near me find alternative ways to bank with us that best suit their individual needs.

3 Ways to Find Free ATMs
ATMs are a wonderful convenience, but they can be expensive if you're not careful. It’s frustrating to pay ATM fees to get your own money. Not only do you pay fees to the ATM operator, but your bank may add charges as well. Those costs add up throughout the year, and first national bank livingston tx means you have less to spend on the things that matter. So, how do you find free ATMs that help you keep more in your bank account?
Start With Your Bank
The simplest solution is to visit your bank or credit union when you need to withdraw cash, although that’s not always the most convenient option.
Your bank’s ATM should be free for you to use, but customers from other banks most likely have to pay fees at the same machines. Whenever possible, plan ahead and withdraw cash that you’ll need for upcoming events while you’re at your bank. You’ll save money, and you’ll save a trip: There’s no need to get cash every few days and pay foreign ATM fees.
Your bank might not have ATMs located where you need them, but there are several other ways to pull money out of ATMs for free.
If you can’t use your bank’s ATM, find out if your bank offers ATM fee rebates. Some banks refund any charges that ATM owners add to your withdrawal. Fee reimbursements are a standard feature on popular cash management accounts, and some local banks and credit unions also offer walmart eye center mexico mo CO-OP Network for Credit Union Members
If you belong to a credit union that's part of the CO-OP network, you have access to almost 30, free ATMs nationwide. Many of those ATMs are located at credit union branches, but you can also find them at retail outlets such as Costco and 7-Eleven. In addition to free ATM access, credit unions often allow you to walk into a branch and work with a teller through “shared branching.” If your credit union is part of the CO-OP network (and you can find an office of another shared branching member), take advantage of that service.
To learn more, visit the CO-OP website. There, you can search for ATMs nearby, as well as get free ATM locator apps.
Your Card’s Network
Most chase deposit atm near me cards are part of an ATM network that allows you to make free withdrawals. Whether you bank with a megabank or a local institution, chase deposit atm near me and credit unions often team up with card networks. Using an ATM for free is often just a matter of finding ATMs in the right network.
To find out which network your bank uses, just ask. Your bank’s app or website should also point you in the right direction with an “ATM Locator” or similar tool. If your bank is no help, check your debit or ATM card: On the back of the card, you will often find logos for various card networks. Those logos indicate which networks to search for in your area.
Several networks are listed below. If one of the names matches the logo on your card, head to its website for more details and to use its ATM search tool. Many of these sites also offer apps that can direct you to the nearest free ATM with GPS-enabled devices that track your location.
Some of the major networks include:
Not Free?
As you use ATM locators, keep in mind that some of them may show that ATMs will cost money to use. In some cases, the ATM is free (it won’t add a surcharge), but your bank will charge you for using a “foreign” ATM. To avoid foreign ATM charges, look for banks that allow you to withdraw anywhere, fee-free. Some online bank accounts, including Capital Onedon’t charge foreign ATM fees.
Alternatives to the ATM
If you can’t find a free ATM nearby, there may be other ways to avoid charges, including going completely cashless.
Cash Back
You might be able to get cash back from a store when you make a purchase with your debit card and use your PIN. Just be sure not to spend money on things you don’t need. With a little bit of planning, you can get the cash you need for the next few days while you stock up on food at the grocery store.
Pay With Plastic
You have your debit card handy, so why not use it for spending instead of paying with cash? If you’re with a group, you can even pay for others’ expenses and have them repay you in cash (which saves you a trip to the ATM). Alternatively, everybody can pay their share with free P2P payment services.
Using a credit card is typically safer for everyday spending than a debit card, because you're only liable for up to $50 in unauthorized charges. You'll just want to be sure to pay off your balance every month.
Keep in mind that swiping your card everywhere you go may be riskier than using your card at ATMs. When you use your card, you expose your card information to a machine (which can be hacked). However, you generally have some protection as a consumer, and even bank ATMs can be compromised with skimming devices and hidden cameras.
