Welcome to TD Bank Personal Banking
Community means family.
I think that's what it's turned into.
I'm going to cry.
I don't know why.
Alright, your turn to talk.
Sam from Bonn Place Brewing Company here, and this is my wife.
Bethlehem is one of the greatest steel towns in America.
When manufacturing had a downturn Bethlehem had to reinvent itself.
When I first met Sam and Gina, they had this dream that they wanted to accomplish.
When we first signed our lease on this building, people were questioning it, like "you sure you want to open a brewery on the south side of Bethlehem in the current climate?"
We were certain that it was ready for what we wanted to do.
We needed a bit of help to get this place openedand everybody needs help.
When anybody ever comes to us and says, "We need help. What can we do? We don't know how to get through this red tape."
We say, "This is what we did. This might help you."
We even went to City Hall for someone once.
This is the community we can change.
What we can change is right here and right now.
Sam and Gina are very passionate about working with women entrepreneurs.
It's hard to start a business.
One thing Sam and Gina have been able to achieve is share the lessons they've learned with other business owners and convince them, "hey, it actually is possible."
We want to see businesses succeed with the opportunities that we've had.
So what better way than to mentor them.
We're all in this together, and it's the bigger picture.
Bonn Place is a catalyst for the regrowth of this community.
They're also now helping other young entrepreneurs get started.
Sam and Gina sat down with us and gave us tips and tricks of what to do to get started.
We had this idea.
And they believe in us.
How much they're committed to the growth of Bethlehem as a whole.
That's the real story.[Applause]
They are the last two people who would want this bestowed upon them, but they are the most deserving.
So we all want to gather here today and say thank you, because we value everything that you put into Bethlehem.
There's a little bit more.
So, the contribution we made to a female entrepreneurship program, in your name.
We're absolutely thrilled.
Next year, with this gift, we're going to be able to serve even more women entrepreneurs.
The integrity of this community is real strong.
This is just the beginning.

Chase cancels Canadian customers' credit card debts
Chase Bank announced on Thursday it will forgive all outstanding debt for Canadian customers who had either of its two VISA cards.
The move was a business decision to ease the bank's exit as it wound down the credit cards, which it retired last year after 13 years of operation, Maria Martinez, vice president of communications for Chase Card Services, told NBC News.
“Chase made the decision to exit the Canadian credit card market. As part of that exit, all credit card accounts were closed on or before March ,” she said in a statement.
Initially customers were told to continue to make payments on the accounts after the credit card operations ceased. But this week Canadian who held the mynewextsetup.us Rewards Visa and the Marriott Premier Rewards Visa saw their balances go to zero.
The bank did not immediately respond to a request for comment about how many customers were impacted or how much debt it wrote off.
Douglas Turner of Coe Hill, Ontario, told the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation that he “couldn’t believe it” when he found out his $6, balance was being wiped clean.
"I was sort of over the moon all last night, with a smile on my face," he said.
While it was a welcome surprise for Canadians who still owed Chase money, many debtors in the United States couldn’t help but feel a little envious.
"Chase can you forgive some of my credit card debt too," wrote Twitter user @Jeevescool. "I’m not Canadian but I do love our neighbors to the north!"

How to upgrade a Chase card
Chase is well-known for its extensive portfolio of rewards cards, including co-branded offerings from popular hotel and airline loyalty programs. But what happens if you signed up for one of these cards and it no longer suits your needs?
Whether you are paying too high an annual fee for your budget, not earning enough in rewards for your kind of spending or wishing for a more comprehensive list of benefits, there are plenty of reasons why your Chase card might no longer be working for you.
But before you apply for a new card or cancel your current one – causing a hit to your credit score – consider another option. Instead, you can upgrade or downgrade your Chase card to another product with the bank.
This option, known as a product change, allows cardholders to find another card with the same issuer that better suits their needs and keep the same account information. That means you won’t have to suffer a hard pull to your credit score, and you can swap a card that doesn’t match your spending for one that does.
Considering an upgrade or downgrade with Chase? Heres how to start the process with the issuer and what eligibility requirements you’ll need to meet.

Upgrade process for Chase cards
To ask for a product change to another Chase card, you’ll need to call the customer service number listed on the back of your current card and inquire about your eligibility for whatever card you are interested in. Then, you’ll be able to complete the entire process over the phone.
The Chase representative will review your account to make sure you qualify, but you won’t have to worry about a hard pull to your credit. If you do make a product change, your account history will simply transfer to the new card – rather than opening a new account.
Tip: One of the most popular product changes between Chase cards is between the Chase Sapphire Reserve and Chase Sapphire Preferred Card. Though the Reserve charges a $ annual fee that’s too much to stomach for some cardholders (and might even prompt a downgrade), users who spend at least $5, on travel and dining a year can get more value out of the Reserve than the Preferred. If you applied for the Preferred but later decide the Reserve makes sense for you, an upgrade is a great way to take advantage of the better offer.
Before you can switch to a new Chase card, you’ll have to meet a few qualifications. Chase has strict rules in place when it comes to what cards are eligible for an upgrade or downgrade and how long you’ve had your current account. Before calling, keep the following requirements in mind:
The type of card you want
Chase requires that cardholders requesting a product change stay within the same card family. For example, you can upgrade or downgrade an Ultimate Rewards card to another Ultimate Rewards card, but you cannot switch to a card that earns airline or hotel points.
Similarly, you can switch between various Southwest Rapid Rewards credit cards, but not from a Southwest card to a Marriott Bonvoy card. Additionally, you cannot upgrade or downgrade from a personal card to a business card (or vice versa), even if both earn the same kind of rewards.
How long you’ve had your current card
Because of protections in place from the CARD Act, credit cardholders cannot be charged a higher annual fee on the same account in the first year of account opening. Due to this regulation, you won’t be able to upgrade a Chase card to one with a higher fee until your account has been open for at least a year.
While this rule does not affect your ability to switch to a card with a lower annual fee, Chase typically still requires cardholders to have an account open for at least a year before downgrading. You might be able to have success downgrading sooner, but your best shot at a product change happens after the one-year mark.
Chase has a positive reputation when it comes to approving product changes, so your likelihood of being allowed to upgrade or downgrade is pretty good. Nevertheless, before you request a product change with any card issuer you should ensure your account is in good standing. If the bank can see a history of on-time payments and responsible card use, you are more likely to be approved for a new card.
Since upgrading or downgrading a card with Chase is a product change and you’ll keep your original account history, you won’t have to worry about it adding to your 5/24 rule count. Additionally, you don’t have to be within 5/24 to qualify for a product change.
Changes to your credit card
So what changes when you upgrade or downgrade a card instead of applying for a new one? Several things will stay the same, as you have the same account – just with a new card. The following things will not change after your product change:
- Your card number does not change, but you’ll receive a new card with an updated CVV and expiration date – so don’t forget to update any automatic payments.
- Your current rewards balance will transfer over to the new card.
- Your credit limit and APR will be the same on the new card as the old one.
- Since you keep the same card number and account history, managing a new Chase card is simple. Just keep in mind that several features might change:
- Your rewards value might shift, as some Chase cards offer a higher point value than others when you redeem your rewards for travel through the Ultimate Rewards portal.
- You won’t receive a new introductory offer unless you receive a targeted offer directly from Chase. This includes both points-based sign-up bonuses and intro APRs.
- If you downgrade from a card with a higher annual fee to one with a lower fee, you can be refunded the cost as long as you switch within 40 days of the fee posting. If you miss this grace period, you can still receive a prorated refund.
- If you upgrade to a card with a higher annual fee, you’ll be charged your new annual fee immediately.
Tip: If you plan to cancel your card with an annual fee – rather than downgrade – you will only have a day grace period to do so and have the annual fee refunded.
Benefits of upgrading or downgrading your card with Chase
If your Chase credit card is no longer suited to your spending habits, requesting a product change to another Chase card can help ensure you still earn rewards that make sense for you – all without a ding to your credit score.
For example, the Chase Freedom Flex offers cash back in rotating bonus categories that you must enroll in each quarter, but some cardholders might be able to get more value out of a card with a higher flat rate on non-bonus spending, like the Chase Freedom Unlimited.
You can also ensure that you aren’t spending more than you can afford on an annual fee. If you signed up for the Sapphire Preferred but now can’t swing the $95 annual fee, you could downgrade to a no-annual-fee Ultimate Rewards card – like the Freedom Unlimited.
Alternatively, if you find yourself with more room in your budget to pay a high annual fee, you can upgrade to take advantage of more extensive rewards and benefits. For example, the Sapphire Reserve offers cardholders a $ travel credit every year and up to $ in credit for a Global Entry or TSA PreCheck application. These perks have a lot of potential value for frequent travelers if you can handle the card’s $ price tag.
Tips for making the most of your upgrade or downgrade
- Carefully read your desired card’s terms and conditions before requesting an upgrade or downgrade.
- Regularly reevaluate if your Chase credit card aligns with your needs. You might be able to request a product change to a better fit.
- Request a downgrade within 30 days of your annual fee posting to be eligible for a full refund.
- When you downgrade from the Sapphire Reserve, use as much of the $ travel credit as possible in the day grace period to have your annual fee refunded.
- If you are downgrading from the Sapphire Reserve or Preferred card, redeem as many points as possible for travel in the Ultimate Rewards portal to take advantage of a higher point value before you switch.

Tip: Though the Chase Freedom Flex and Chase Freedom Unlimited cards are marketed as cash back cards, they are still considered Ultimate Rewards cards. That means you are able to upgrade or downgrade to or from these and the Sapphire cards.
Chase has a wide variety of great cards for all kinds of spenders. If you find that your card no longer suits your needs, you can likely switch to a different Chase product. That way, you’ll earn rewards matched to your lifestyle without suffering a hit to your credit score.
Just keep in mind that Chase has some eligibility requirements before you can take advantage of this option, such as how long you’ve had your account open and which products you can switch between. You also won’t be able to snag an introductory offer.
Nevertheless, choosing to upgrade or downgrade your Chase card is a great option for many types of cardholders, and the process is very straightforward.

Coming out of college into my first full-time job, one of my financial goals was to get a credit card of my own.
I had a credit card previously when my mom had the foresight to open a joint credit card when I started college — with her as a co-owner — to help me build credit. After four years of responsible usage, I had a credit score in the mids.
After combing through the NextAdvisor credit card reviews, I set my sights on the Chase Freedom Unlimited® for its generous cash back in categories I knew I’d use, no annual fee, and generous intro bonus.
I applied online — and was promptly denied.
The online form didn’t provide any details, and I would need to wait several days for a mailed letter explaining the decision.
I turned to NextAdvisor’s senior writer and resident credit card expert, Kendall Little, for advice. “Call Chase and ask them for details and to appeal the decision,” Kendall told me. “At the very least, youll get a better understanding of why you were denied,” she explained.
I called Chase customer service and politely explained my situation, then asked if they could tell me why my application was rejected. The representative gave me several reasons, two of which stuck out to me:
- The total available credit line — the maximum amount I could borrow — on my current joint credit card was too low.
- I had too many recently opened loan accounts (I’d taken out some student loans the previous semester).
The Chase representative offered to submit a reconsideration request for me. I provided some information about my current employer, salary, employment history, and my reasons for wanting the Chase Freedom Unlimited card.
After some additional steps to verify my identity, I received a welcome package for the Chase Freedom Unlimited Card in the mail.
All in all, the whole process took around four weeks and a surprising amount of work. Aside from discovering the power of a polite phone call to customer service, here are five lessons I learned from the experience.
1. The credit score used by lenders may be different than what you see
In lieu of paying a fee to check my credit score, I used my bank’s free credit score reporting service, which uses TransUnion’s FICO scores. I thought I had a good credit score in the recommended range for the Chase Freedom Unlimited card.
When I got the decision letter from Chase, however, the score they listed was almost 20 points lower than what my bank had reported. According to the letter, Chase used its own proprietary scoring system and data from Equifax. Although it seems that my credit score was not the tipping point of the decision, the significant difference still surprised me.
The lesson I learned from this is that scores can vary depending on where you get them. Just because you’re in the recommended score range doesn’t mean you’re guaranteed to get a certain card.
2. It takes more than on-time payments to build credit
Even accounting for the variance, my credit score was still considered good to very good by most standards. However, the decision letter listed several factors other than my credit score as grounds for denial, including too low of a credit line on my current joint card and too many recently opened accounts.
For a long time, I had assumed that paying your bills on time and in full was enough. It’s true your credit score plays a major part in credit applications, and payment history accounts for the largest share of your credit score calculation. But I should’ve taken into account all the other factors that could affect my credit application.
In hindsight, I could have paid more attention to my credit utilization ratio — the amount borrowed divided by total credit available. The recommended credit utilization is under 30%, and because I had a low credit line with my previous card, my normal spending sometimes pushed me over the threshold.
I also wish I had spaced out the timing of my credit card application so that it didn’t come so soon after I took out my student loans since lenders view recently opened credit accounts as risky.
3. Your current credit line can affect your future credit applications
The thing that surprised me the most was how my credit line on my existing joint credit card affected my application. Your credit line itself doesn’t factor into your credit score calculation — just your credit utilization ratio. I didn’t spend much with my card, so I never bothered to apply for an increase to the $ credit line I started out with.
After several years of making on-time payments, I probably would’ve qualified for a credit line increase if I had asked for one. If I had known my credit line would affect my future card applications, I would’ve done the extra work to apply for a credit line increase.
4. Be patient and apply strategically
After being denied, I immediately started scouting out other options. I held back on actually applying, though, because I didn’t want new credit inquiries to hurt my credit score further. Thankfully, I convinced Chase to reconsider my application. But even if I had been rejected a second time, it would’ve been better to wait for the case to be closed completely before trying somewhere else.
Even though things worked out in the end, I probably could’ve saved myself some time and hassle by applying for a card with easier requirements. While it’s good to research which cards have the best rewards and perks, I learned that it’s also important to have realistic expectations and apply strategically for the cards you have the best chance of qualifying for.
While regularly monitoring your credit score is always a good idea, keep in mind that the credit score you check may not match the credit score lenders check.
5. It’s important to build credit early
One thing I did do right — thanks to my mom — was building credit early. Looking back, I’m grateful that my mom helped me get that joint credit card before I saw the need for one. Having an existing credit history made it possible for me to choose a high-value rewards cards for my first independent credit card.
For any parents out there, I recommend adding your teenager as an authorized user on your credit card or opening a joint credit card together. Teach them how to use it properly as soon as they’re old enough to handle the responsibility. College students and young adults who want a card independent of their parents can consider applying for secured cards and student cards specifically designed to help people with no credit history build credit.
Why I Chose the Chase Freedom Unlimited
When I was doing my initial research to decide which credit card I should get, I had two other contenders besides the Chase Freedom Unlimited: the Citi® Double Cash Card* and the Capital One SavorOne Cash Rewards Credit Card*. Though all three were highly-rated cash back cards with no annual fee — my most important consideration — I ultimately decided on the Chase Freedom Unlimited for two reasons:
- Intro bonus: Unlike the Citi Double Cash Card, the Chase Freedom Unlimited Card came with a $ intro bonus after you spend $ on purchases within the first three months of account opening. Even though the Citi Double Cash Card had a higher overall base cashback percentage (2% vs. %, not considering additional rewards categories), it would take $40, of spending for the difference in cash back rewards to exceed the value of the intro bonus — way more that I would spend in a year.
- Spending categories: My biggest monthly expense aside from rent and utilities is food. The Chase Freedom Unlimited Card and Capital One SavorOne both offer a $ intro bonus and 3% cash back on restaurant dining. The Chase Freedom Unlimited offers 5% cash back on grocery store purchases (not including Target® or Walmart® purchases) on up to $12, spent in the first year, % cash back on all purchases and the Capital One SavorOne offers 3% cash back on grocery stores (excluding superstores like Walmart® and Target®) and 1% cash back on other purchases. While I normally like to cook, part of my plan for meeting the $ into bonus spending requirement was to eat out more. I knew that my food budget for the next three months would include more takeout than groceries, so I evaluated the cashback categories accordingly.
