Description:&#; &#; The Atlanta Community Food Bank is a nonprofit organization
supplying food and grocery items to over partner agencies serving families
and individuals in 29 metro Atlanta and North Georgia counties.

Position Description:

The Community Garden Volunteer Group Leader is to support the Community
Service Group’s Community Gardening services. This position requires that you
work Tuesday through Saturday work schedule with availability needed for most
mornings. The Volunteer Group Leader will report to the Community Garden
Duties: Purposes, Responsibilities and Duties

1.&#; &#; &#; To support the ACFB Community Gardening volunteer program as a group
a.&#; &#; &#; Communicate with scheduled volunteer group contacts in advance of
scheduled work days

b.&#; &#; &#; Coordinating the Atlanta Area Plant a Row for the Hungry data
collection process, including training and assisting Community Garden interns.
c.&#; &#; &#; Working collaboratively with and provide support to the Food Well
Alliance, the Captain Planet Foundation, the Atlanta Local Food Initiative and
others that also provide services to our shared network of community, learning
and therapeutic gardens.
d.&#; &#; &#; Coordinate inventory and distribution of vegetable seeds to community
e.&#; &#; &#; Maintaining the Community Garden storage area and tool inventory at
acceptable levels of cleanliness and order.
f.&#; &#; &#; Ensure an adequate inventory of bottled water and snacks required for
garden work days.
g.&#; &#; &#; Provide other assistance to Community Gardens, including technical and
mechanical support.

Giving Tuesday is 'Super Bowl' for Atlanta Community Food Bank

Atlanta Community Food Bank celebrates Giving Tuesday

Staffers and volunteers at the Atlanta Community Food Bank call Giving Tuesday their 'Super Bowl Day' and are hoping for a big response from the community.

EAST POINT, Ga. - The stats on the Atlanta Community Food Bank website are sobering: one in seven children in the ACFB service area goes to bed hungry every night, and more thanpeople in the service area are projected to be "food insecure." But volunteers and staffers say they hope to make a dent in those numbers on the busy day known as Giving Tuesday.


Giving Tuesday was created back in as a way to encourage people to give back to their communities on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. That makes it a big day for the Atlanta Community Food Bank, which is currently dealing with increased demand due to both the holiday season and the ongoing pandemic. 

Back in February, Atlanta Community Food Bank president and CEO Kyle Waide told Good Day Atlanta that the organization had seen a 65% increase in food distribution due to the pandemic.

"We&#x;ve seen a dramatic increase in the number of people who are struggling to get all the food that they need," Waide said. "So many is costa rica in south america have been impacted by job losses, by the closure of schools, by other disruptions in their lives." 

Also helping in the effort to collect food for the Atlanta Community Food Bank is the Atlanta Apartment Association, which was founded back in as metro Atlanta's multifamily housing trade association. Over the years, representatives say they&#x;ve been able to donate millions of meals thanks to their annual Food-A-Thon. This year&#x;s event was held earlier this month and was organized as a drive-through event for atlanta community food bank dropping off food.

The Atlanta Community Food Bank opened its first-ever Community Food Center in Gwinnett County, serving as a local food pantry operated directly by the Atlanta Community Food Bank and its volunteers.

Located at Parker Court, Stone Mountain, Georgiathe new Community Food Center (CFC) is a 14, square-foot facility that will distribute food directly to local families. It also will serve as a distribution hub for the Food Bank to its partners in the surrounding area, helping food pantries conserve time and transportation costs. In its first year, the CFC is projected to distributepounds of food, enough for approximatelymeals.

The location was specifically chosen due to a history of high need for food assistance in the area. Gwinnett County’s population has a food insecurity rate of 9%, including nearly 26, children, based on Feeding America’s most recent Map the Meal Gap Study. The coronavirus pandemic atlanta community food bank only worsened the situation, with projections for Gwinnett County now reaching as high as % food insecurity.

The Community Food Center is part of the Food Bank’s strategic plan to increase access to nutritious food wherever need exceeds the capacity of local resources; this center will join the Food Bank’s existing partner network of nonprofit organizations serving Gwinnett County.

The mission of the Atlanta Community Food Bank is to fight hunger by educating, empowering and engaging our community


Founded inthe Atlanta Community Food Bank currently distributes almost 2 million pounds of food and other donated grocery items monthly to more than nonprofit partner agencies in 38 counties in Metro Atlanta and North Georgia. According to the Atlanta Community Food Bank (ACFB), it atlanta community food bank a sad reality that more than 50 percent of people who receive food assistance also use at least three other coping strategies in order to not go hungry. These strategies include purchasing less healthy but less expensive foods, relying on family and friends for food or money and watering down food and drinks.

But the food bank does more than just provide food; it educates the entire Georgia community through classes and activities.
