Amazon Prime in Australia: Here's everything a subscription gets you

[Did you know that you can get a free Kindle ebook jennifer holliday feel my soul month as a Prime member? Here's how Numero de amazon usa First Reads can score you one.]

Amazon may have started off as an online bookstore, but it has grown to become one of the largest tech companies in the world. Amongst everything Amazon does globally, by far its biggest (and most well known) consumer-facing business is its online shopping site. And a huge part of that is the company's Amazon Prime subscription service.

Amazon Prime was introduced into the Australian market in and, in these few years, the platform has managed to set a strong base locally, offering shoppers Down Under a range of savings and benefits for a flat monthly fee of just AU$

That small fee opens up a whole world of perks for Prime members, all of which are Amazon-specific. So, what’s included? In a nutshell, if you sign up for Amazon Prime in Australia, you’ll get:

  • Free two-day delivery on domestic purchases
  • Free standard delivery on orders over AU$49 made from the ‘global store’ section (i.e. international purchases shipped from the US or the UK)
  • Access to Prime Video, Prime Reading, Prime Music and Prime Gaming (formally called Twitch)
  • Early access to discounts and deals
  • Big savings on Amazon Prime Day

What is Amazon Prime?

To put it simply, Amazon Prime is an all-in-one subscription service that offers members some benefits for a monthly (or annual) fee.

Its main appeal is that it offers Prime members fast and free delivery on many purchases, plus access to some of the company’s amazon fresh cost services, including a vast library of movies and TV shows, over two million songs that stream amazon fresh cost and some additional benefits on some of Amazon's paid services.

Prime members also get exclusive early access to select deals and offers – called Lightning Deals that are available for a short duration – and get to participate in a members-only annual sale called Prime Day (more on this later).

In the US, Amazon Prime offers free shipping on millions of items, same-day delivery (even two-hour delivery in some cases) and access to its video and music streaming services, unlimited ebooks and audiobooks, and unlimited photo storage. However, to get all the goods and services Amazon promises in its Prime package across the Pacific, American customers pay US$ a month (US$ a year).

In Australia, unfortunately, there are some caveats to what Prime members get, but it also costs us less – half of what the US pays, to be precise.

How much does the Prime service cost in Australia?

In Australia, Amazon Prime subscriptions cost AU$ a month, or AU$59 per year – the latter is definitely better value as it saves you just under AU$25 across each month period.

As is customary with all of Amazon’s subscription services, there’s a day free trial on offer. If you aren’t happy with the Prime service, you’ll need to manually cancel your membership before the day trial ends or you will be charged the full monthly fee the following month.

What do Australian Prime members get?

Amazon has brought the promise of free delivery for its Aussie Prime members, but it’s limited to domestic purchases only, and specifically those marked as "Prime eligible".  This is depicted as a 'Prime tick mark' beside the pricing information of a particular product, and can be offered on anything that's sold and shipped directly by Amazon Australia or a third-party vendor. So, if you buy something that's Prime eligible, you won't be charged for delivery, no matter how little or how much your final order costs.

Not that if the "Prime eligible" label is not visible, speedy and/or free delivery is not an option even if you are a Prime member.

However, if an order of locally sold goods is over $39, it automatically qualifies for Amazon’s free standard delivery policy, irrespective of whether the product(s) you buy is Prime eligible or not, and whether you're a Prime member or not.

Also worth noting is that, in Australia, Prime’s free delivery service isn’t the 'same day' one that's offered in the US. Locally, it’s a two-day delivery promise – something that's most likely due to Amazon having only two Australian fulfilment centres, one located in Melbourne, with the other in Sydney. Despite that, even the Australian East Coast doesn't qualify for same-day delivery, but we're hoping that might change to when Amazon expands is network of warehouses locally.

Unfortunately, though, while Aussies were stuck at home during the global coronavirus crisis, Amazon's shipping infrastructure was overwhelmed with a steep increase in online orders. Amazon was struggling to keep up with its two-day Prime delivery guarantee and was, understandably, delaying shipping accordingly. However, the situation in Australia has improved and Amazon is back on track with its delivery promises, although there are some delays still, particularly on international purchases.

Speaking of which, international items bought from the 'global store' section of the site (which lists products shipped and sold by Amazon US and, more recently, by Amazon UK), only qualify for free delivery if the total cost of the product(s) is AU$49 or more and, again, marked as being Prime eligible. Again, with the spread of the coronavirus, delivery of items from the US or the UK have been affected and they're not as 'expedited' as before.

Prime members also get exclusive early access to Lightning Deals (Amazon’s limited-time deals that vanish within hours of going live), typically seeing them live on site about 30 minutes before anyone else can.

Alongside those shopping benefits, there’s a number of complementary digital-media subscriptions that are included for free with Prime:

It is also important to note that, unlike other markets, in Australia you cannot sign up for any of the aforementioned services as a standalone. For example, you cannot sign up for just Prime Video. If you do, it will still cost you AU$ per month and get you all the Prime perks there are.

Other Amazon services in Australia

While Prime members in the US get additional perks – like access to walking the west highland way in 4 days grocery and restaurant deliveries, and a free subscription to the Washington Post (which Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos also owns) – the Australian Prime service is limited to just the aforementioned options.

However, Amazon’s repertoire in Australia still extends beyond those Prime offerings. There’s a smattering of other services that the company runs locally, although you’ll need to sign up for them individually, paying either a monthly or annual fee for each. Anyone can sign up for these services, not just Prime members.

Here’s what those locally-available Amazon subscription services entail:

How to cancel your Amazon Prime membership

If your Amazon subscription has past its prime, whether it be during your day free trial or later, you can cancel at any time.

Cancelling Amazon Prime free trial

If you're still within the day free trial, hover over the 'Your Account' button in the top right corner of your browser, and select 'Your Prime Membership' from the dropdown menu. Then click on 'Cancel Free Trial' or 'Do Not Continue' on the left-hand side of your browser window.

Our suggestion would be to go with 'Do Not Continue' as you’ll be able to keep using Amazon Prime until the end of your free trial period, after which your membership will end. The payment card that you provided details for when starting you trial won’t be charged in this case.

Cancelling a paid Amazon Prime membership

In the case of a paid membership, head to 'Your Prime Membership' as described above and, this time, click 'End Membership' on the left hand side of the page. If you haven’t used your Amazon Prime benefits like free delivery or Prime Video (this might be the case if you accidentally let your free trial overrun), then you will be eligible for a full refund.

Even if you’ve used some of Amazon Prime’s features, but not all, you may still be eligible for a partial refund based on your use.

Can you keep Prime Video?

In Australia, you can't turn your existing Prime subscription to just a Prime Video one. It's part of the full package and, if you cancel your Prime account, you lose access to Prime Video as well.

What is Amazon Prime Day

The simple answer is it's Amazon's take on Black Friday, held each year to celebrate the company's anniversary. It has typically been a hour shopping spree exclusively for Prime members, but the duration of Prime Day has been increasing and the last two Prime Days lasted an epic 65 hours. It began on schedule at midnight on the official start date each year, then continued on till it ended in the US West Coast.

Prime Day was a unique event – not only was much later in the year than expected (held in October as opposed to July), it was also kicked off on a Tuesday instead of the traditional start day of Monday. What will bring is yet to be seen but here's hoping things go back to pre-Covid times. That means, if Amazon is able to go back to operating on schedule, then chances are high Prime Day will again be held mid-July and will likely last another 65 hours. That said, there have been reports that Prime Day might held some time in June.

In the meantime, Amazon Australia continues to offer its daily deals online.

While Amazon Prime has its perks, you don't have to be a member to avail low prices on products being sold on the online marketplace.

The event is characterized by a number of sales and promotions exclusive to Amazon Prime subscribers, with Amazon initially promoting that it would feature "more deals than Black Friday".[92] The inaugural Prime Day faced criticism over the quality of the discounts offered, with many of them being tied to items not in high demand. Some users jokingly described the event as a "yard sale", and Walmart also countered the event with a promotional blog post arguing that customers "shouldn't have to pay $ to find great deals". Amazon defended criticism of the event, noting that order volume on the website had "surpassed" Black Friday sales in [93][94][95][96][97] That same month, Amazon Prime announced[98] it signed up Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May, formerly of BBC's Top Gear, to begin working on The Grand Tour for Amazon Prime Video, which was released in

On July 13,Amazon Prime said customers placed 60 percent more orders worldwide on "Prime Day".[99] The edition was preceded by a concert event headlined by Ariana Grande, and streamed on Amazon Video and Twitch.[] The concert was held on July 10 ahead of Prime Day starting on July 15, and streamed exclusively for Prime subscribers, featuring Taylor Swift, Dua Lipa, Becky G, and SZA.[][][]

InPrime Day first became tied to protests of Amazon and employee strikes due to the treatment of workers at its fulfillment centers. Supporters of these actions have urged boycotts of Amazon during Prime Day as solidarity, covering all services provided by the company and its subsidiaries.[][][][]

InPrime Day was postponed in the US due to the COVID pandemic, and was held from October 13– In Canada, Prime Day was postponed to October 13– Prime Day was held in India on August 6–7.[]

In MayPrime Day was postponed indefinitely in Canada due to COVID[]

Availability[edit]

As of October&#;,[update] Prime memberships are available in 22 countries: Austria, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Mexico, the Netherlands, Poland, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Turkey, the UK, and the US.[] Prime membership may also be available in further locations; however, due to differing (usually higher) delivery costs, customs and import restrictions, as well as copyright and broadcasting rights issues, the benefits to customers in these locations are heavily limited. An example of such a situation is true for Amazon customers located in Switzerland and Liechtenstein. Amazon Prime subscriptions from neighbouring countries are available.[citation needed]

    Is Amazon Prime worth it?

From free streaming of TV and movies, discounted grocery delivery and merchandise deals on Prime Day to free expedited shipping on qualifying purchases, Amazon Prime has a lot to offer to frequent Amazon shoppers. But the membership comes at a steep cost – $ a year. If you opt for a monthly payment plan, that cost jumps to $ per month plus tax, or closer to $ per year.

Tip: This year, Amazon Prime Day is June 21 and June Make sure to keep an eye out for great deals, and that you have one of the best credit cards for Prime Day ready to score rewards on your purchases.

So how do you decide if Amazon Prime is worth it? The membership is packed with perks, but each one is valuable only to certain spenders. To help you determine if this membership is right for you, we crunched the numbers for an estimated value of top Prime perks. Read on to learn more.

    How much is Amazon Prime?

For most customers, Amazon Prime costs $ per year for allied savings bank contact number annual payment or $ per month for monthly payments. Luckily, Amazon offers several different discounted memberships that you might qualify for.

For instance, Amazon offers low prices for students and customers with Electronic Benefits Transfer card (EBT) or Medicaid cards.

For students, they offer a six-month trial that includes complimentary amazon fresh cost shipping on eligible purchases, unlimited streaming through Prime Video, access to Amazon fresh cost Music and photo storage with Prime Photos. After the introductory six months, the monthly fee will be $ ($ total per year) or you could pay the $59 annual fee.

EBT or Medicaid cardholders could also qualify for a cheaper offer with a monthly payment of $

    1. Free shipping benefits (Estimated value = $/year)

One of the primary appeals of Amazon Prime is its free shipping guarantee. Prime members get free two-day shipping, as well as free same-day delivery in certain cities and even same-hour delivery in certain ZIP codes.

Amazon Prime free shipping (Qualified items only)

    ShippingCost
    Two-day shippingFree
Same-day deliveryFree for qualifying orders in certain cities
Two-hour deliveryFree in eligible ZIP codes
One-day shippingFree for qualifying orders in certain cities
Saturday shippingPrice varies by item size and weight – as low as $ per item
    Amazon Day deliveryFree
    No-rush shippingFree
    Standard shipping ( business days)Free
    Release-date deliveryFree

If your dream is to have endless orders from Amazon delivered posthaste to your doorstep without racking up shipping fees, this is an excellent deal. Your savings on two-day deliveries should easily surpass a $ membership fee.

This is a difficult benefit to value since shipping fees can vary drastically depending on the price and type of item. We’ve estimated an average of $15 per $50 item for two-day shipping fees. At a rate of two deliveries per month, that comes to $ per year.

Drawbacks: Amazon already offers free standard shipping on eligible orders over $25 to every Amazon shopper. If you typically order more than $25 worth of merchandise and aren’t in the habit of using expedited shipping, Prime shipping benefits may be more of a convenience than a cost saver for you.

We’d also note that Walmart also offers free two-day shipping on orders greater than $ If you’re purely interested in the bottom line, Walmart may be the better place to shop. You can get expedited shipping on low-priced merchandise without having to pay a $ membership fee.

    2. Qualify for the Amazon Prime credit card (Estimated value = $65/year)

With the Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Signature card, you get 5% cash back on every purchase that you make on Amazon or Whole Foods. Because this 5% offer is available year-round, it beats the rewards rate for Amazon purchases on any other rewards card.

For an Amazon Prime member who spends around $1, a year, 5% cash back adds up to $65 per year.

    Why get it?
You are already a Prime member, you are thinking of joining Prime or you spend $6,+ on Amazon purchases or $+ on Amazon shipping per year (in which case, Prime membership is definitely worth it).

    More things to know:
    • 5% cash back at Amazon and Whole Foods
    • 2% cash back on gas, restaurant and drugstore purchases
    • 1% cash back on other purchases
    • $ Amazon gift card upon sign-up
    • $0 (requires $ Prime membership)

Drawbacks: While you can rack up a significant discount on your purchases just by using the card – enough to offset your annual membership fee – you should keep in mind that Amazon also offers the Amazon Rewards Visa to regular Amazon members. With the regular Rewards Visa, you can earn 3% cash back at Amazon and Whole Foods without having to pay a membership fee.

    3. Discount on Whole Foods purchases (Estimated value = $69/year)

Great news, foodies: Your 5% cash back with the Amazon Prime Visa also applies to Whole Foods purchases. Cardmembers get 5% back any time they use their Amazon Prime Visa to shop at Whole Foods (and free delivery in some cities through its Prime Now service). This survey indicates that Amazon Prime members who shop regularly at Whole Foods spend an average of $1, per year on Whole Foods purchases. If you fit this niche, your 5% discount is likely to net you around $69 per year in savings at Whole Foods.

Plus, Prime members have access to rotating deals on select products at Whole Foods, allowing you to save an additional 10% on eligible sale items and unlock other deals on all kinds of purchases.

    4. 20% discount on diaper subscriptions (Estimated value = $28/year)

Amazon Prime offers some great benefits for Amazon Family members, and one of the more popular ones is its 20% discount on diapers. To get the discount, you must start a diaper subscription through Amazon’s Subscribe and Save service. Amazon will then deliver the diapers to you on a regular basis (in intervals between one and six months), and you can cancel at any time.

See related: Guide: How to maximize your cash chase bank 3d secure on mynewextsetup.us

Drawbacks: A quick comparison of Amazon’s diaper prices verifies that the 20% discount can get you some of the lowest prices on diapers without requiring a lot of footwork. However, the discount isn’t as great as it seems. Amazon Subscribe and Save is open to any Amazon member, and regular Amazon members are already entitled to a 15% discount as long as they subscribe to at least five items. So, the Prime discount is really more like a 5% discount. Also, you should be aware that Amazon prices fluctuate wildly, so you’ll need to keep a close eye on your subscription.

    5. Free movie and TV show streaming (Estimated value = $/year)

Amazon Prime membership entitles you to unlimited access to thousands of TV and movie titles at no additional cost. Without a Prime membership, a Prime Video subscription costs $ per month, so this perk saves around $ per year.

Drawbacks: While Amazon has been working to beef up its content, it doesn’t offer the same quality or breadth of content as, say, Netflix. However, it does have some good titles in its lineup, including original series like “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” and “Catastrophe.” As a free add-on service, it’s a great deal.

    6. Free music streaming (Estimated value = $/year)

You also get a free membership to Prime music, which grants you unlimited, ad-free access to hundreds of playlists and more than a million songs. Since Spotify charges a $ fee per month for its subscription service, we figure that Prime music membership nets you $ in value.

Drawbacks: Like its video content, Amazon’s music content is limited and not up to par with competitors such as Spotify, so maybe it’s not quite worth $ per year. Still, it&#;s a nice add-on service.

    7. Free unlimited photo storage (Estimated value = $60/year)

One nifty benefit of Prime membership is unlimited storage for your photos. While most storage services put a tight limit on the number of files you can store for free and can charge up to $ per month for a terabyte of storage, Amazon lets you endlessly add photos to your account for free. Since Amazon itself charges $ per year for a terabyte of where can i load my cash app card with money, we figure this benefit is worth around $60 per year.

    8. Grocery delivery through Amazon Fresh and Amazon Pantry (Estimated value = $/year)

Along with its two-day shipping benefits, Amazon currently offers several delivery services that – in conjunction with its acquisition of Whole Foods in – could be the next big selling proposition for Prime membership.

Its Amazon Pantry service is available for most ZIP codes. Pantry allows you to fill a “pantry box” with household items in smaller, “everyday” sizes and ship them on demand. For orders of $35 or more, Prime members qualify for free delivery. On all orders of $35 or less (for Prime members) and all non-Prime orders, a flat shipping fee of $ applies. Most orders arrive within four business days.

Alternatively, Amazon Fresh is a grocery delivery service offered in select cities exclusively to Amazon Prime members. You simply place your amazon fresh cost for grocery staples (or a few basic Amazon products) and choose a two-hour delivery window for free delivery (on orders over $35). Note that during particularly busy times, grocery delivery windows may be limited.

Both of these services can be valuable offerings for customers wanting groceries, or other home staples delivered right to their door. Considering what other delivery services – including Instacart – charge for this service, we value it at $ per year.

Drawbacks: Amazon has a ways to go to compete with the likes of Instacart. While Prime Pantry does have a pretty good selection of household supplies and processed food items such as potato chips and coffee, the selection of perishable items – e.g., produce, meat, milk – that you can get through Prime Now is still very limited. While Amazon Fresh has a much larger selection of such staples, it is available in fewer locations.

Also, you’ll have to compete with other customers for delivery windows. If the closest two-hour time slot is filled, you may have to choose a later time slot, resulting in a much longer wait.

    Other noteworthy Prime benefits

As mentioned, there’s more to Amazon Prime than can fit in one article, but here are a few other benefits worth noting:

    • Unlimited access to a selection of books, magazines and audio books on any mobile device. Savings on 12 books/year = $92/year
    • Prime Early Access deals. Savings = 20% or more on a variety of merchandise
    • Amazon Prime Day (this year on June ). Savings = 20% or more on a variety of items

Bonus tip: Save with a half-price Amazon Prime Student membership

The Amazon Prime for Students program is a really great deal for students currently in college. You’re entitled to most of the same benefits as regular Prime members – including free two-day shipping – at a 50% discount. And, you get a six-month free trial period. All you need is a valid .edu address to qualify. Benefits include:

    • Prime video
    • Prime music (once your six-month trial period expires)
    • Free shipping benefits
    • Free photo storage
    • Twitch Prime
    • Exclusive deals for Prime members

Adding it all up: Is Prime really worth it?

When we add up all the free services that come with Prime membership, the answer, by an overwhelming number, is: Yes &#; maybe. Actually – it depends on which of the free services you value and make use of.

In the table below, you can see all our estimated values added together – the total is nearly nine times the cost of a $ Prime membership:

Annual Prime membership estimated yearly value (Based on $1, annual Prime spend)

Membership benefitsEstimated amazon fresh cost two-day shipping$
    5% discount on Amazon purchases$65
5% discount on Whole Foods purchases$69
    20% discount on diaper subscriptions$28
Free movie and TV show streaming$
    Free music streaming$
    Free unlimited photo storage$60
    Free grocery delivery$
Unlimited access to books, magazines and audio books (12 books per year)$92
    Total$

This is a huge value for a $ fee, and you can see why Amazon Prime membership is well worth it to many of its members. But, it’s not worth it for everyone. If you don’t often have a need for two-day shipping and you prefer Spotify and Netflix over Amazon streaming services, you may have a harder time seeing the value in Amazon Prime membership.

Also, you should probably factor other costs into the equation. This statistic from Statista shows that the average Prime member spends $ more per year on average ($1, total spend per year) than a non-Prime member on Amazon purchases. There’s a chance that all the conveniences of Amazon Prime may lure you into spending more on Amazon than you had intended.

Here are all the ways you can buy groceries on Amazon—and how much each costs

There are days when schlepping to the grocery store just isn't going to happen, but you still need to fill your fridge. Luckily, there's an ever-expanding variety of online grocery retailers and services.

Amazon is one of the biggest operators in this space, which includes Boxed, FreshDirect, Instacart and Peapod. The company offers five different grocery delivery programs, depending on how quickly you need your groceries and what you're shopping for.

Here's a look at the groceries you can purchase from Amazon, all of the costs and delivery fees for each program, and where each amazon fresh cost is available.

    mynewextsetup.us

    • Upfront cost: $0
    • Delivery Fee: Free with order of $25 or more
    • Delivery availability: business day shipping available anywhere Amazon delivers

If you don't have a Prime membership, which costs $ a year, you can still buy shelf-stable groceries from Amazon's main website. However, most of these items are sold in bulk. For example, an 8-pack of ounce packages of Barilla spaghetti sells for $

You can find some good deals, but don't automatically assume that buying in bulk will net you the cheapest price — you should still shop around. Walmart sells a two pack of Barilla ounce spaghetti for $, which is slightly cheaper when calculating the cost per ounce, and you can get free two-day delivery.

And because Amazon purchased Whole Foods Market inthe online giant's customers can purchase a limited number of Whole Foods' Everyday Value brand of products in single servings. A ounce box of organic whole wheat spaghetti sells for $, while a ounce jar of organic, creamy almond butter is $

If you don't have a nearby Whole Foods and don't want to pay for an Amazon membership, this is a great way to get pantry items delivered to your doorstep.
